A note from the Youth Coaches

A very warm welcome to the youth section of the Cumberland Netball Club Website!

We have a thriving youth section here at Cumberland, which encompasses players aged 14/15 (school year 10) up to the age of 18. Typically our players have experience of playing netball through school.

We do not have formal trials for our youth section at Cumberland, and as such everyone is welcome to come along to youth training, which takes place Wednesday evenings. If you are interested in joining our youth section please do come along to a training session, and contact our enquiries secretary who will let the coaches know that you are coming.

We hope that all of our youths have a great season and forge new friendships both on and off the court; and most importantly, enjoy their netball! Please contact our enquiries secretary if you have any further queries.

Youth Training

Here at Cumberland we aim to make our youth training sessions fun and enjoyable, while at the same time improving holistic netball skills including fitness and teamwork as well as their netball game. We train every Wednesday evening 7pm – 8.30pm at Camden courts (See our contact page for address and map). Training starts in September and follows the Netball league competition season, which runs until April/May. Our youth section trains alongside our Senior Squad 2, which allows them to experience a higher standard of competitive play during training, which helps improve their game.

The first 2 sessions that you attend will be free of charge, however membership fees for the season are due by the third session. Membership fees cover Affiliation and insurance with England Netball, Court hire and coaching costs. After the first two sessions, any subsequent sessions attended until the season’s subs are paid will incur a £5 training fee per session which will not be offset from the future subs payment. Once subs have been paid for the season, this covers the cost of all remaining training sessions.

For the 2011/12 season, membership fees for Juniors will be £100 for the whole season or £65 for those joining after 01/01/2012.

Youth Competition Opportunities

We enter a youth team alongside our senior teams into the North London Netball League competition. In the 2010/11 season our youth team played in division 5 of this league. This allows our youths to experience a higher standard of competitive play than junior leagues offer, and they typically will play together in a youth team. Team selection will be on the basis of performance and commitment to training. There is also the opportunity to play in higher senior teams for our youths with the appropriate level of skill and potential.

League matches take place approximately once a fortnight on Saturdays from September to April. Please see the North London Junior Netball League Website for information about fixtures and results for the current season. League matches all take place at Broomfield Park courts (Palmers Green, London, N13 4RB).
