B Team match report, Saturday 27/09/08
On Saturday 27th September, once again Cumberland A faced Poly A. Both evenly matched this shaped up to be an extremely tight and well fought game, indeed it did not disappoint.
The first quarter began well for Cumberland, despite the starting seven being a brand new combination. The team seem to gel with ease and from the first whistler put out a strong performance, with Poly only just taking the lead leading into quarter time up 14-12.
Determined, the same 7 went out and held to the same goal difference. However, the real break came in the third quarter, with some fierce determination from defence and skillful and relentless attack, the score at three-quarter time was 39-39.
Fresh legs were brought on in the fourth quarter, however with some exceptionally strong and consistent play from Poly they managed to narrowly take the match 52-47. Whilst the team was understandably disappointed to lose, there was an undeniably strong team performance with notable exceptions from GA Kelly Hutton who won players player and GK Hannah Goodey gaining officials player of the match.
The team took a great number of positives from the match and with fitness ever improving; we’ll definitely take them next time!
