Cumberland lined up against a much fancied Academy A team in their first game in the London & South East Regional competition. In a closely fought, high pressure encounter, Cumberland played high quality, patient netball and built a solid half time lead.
Cumberland's consistency and accuracy reigned supreme again in the third quarter, extending their advantage to 9 goals. Academy came out hard in the final quarter, using a strong bench to their advantage. Cumberland kept their cool and, led by outstanding defence by Polini Langi and Natalie Cowie, maintained their advantage to win by 5 goals – 39-34.
