Young netball talent from across North London congregated at Camden Sports Pitch on Wednesday 5th March for what was to be a nail-biting tournament. Organised by Cumberland Netball Club, the tournament was for Under 12s and Under 14s. England netballer Chioma Ezeogu who led a warm up game of stuck-in-the-mud, described this event as:

Absolutely excellent because it’s getting lots of young people into a great sport which will give them valuable skills and help them make really great friends and its fun!

Students from Camden School for Girls found playing against clubs and other school teams very motivational, saying it made them “try harder”. Tracy Quirke, the Bishop Douglass coach, commented that the tournament was a great way “to give our students an opportunity to get involved in netball in a well-organised but fun environment.”

Cumberland trainee umpires got the opportunity to put their skills into practice in this competitive but friendly atmosphere. After some closely contested and fast-paced games, the winners were announced. The U12 runners up were Camden School for Girls who just lost out to Cumberland 2, the overall winners. The team spirit award went to Ashmount School for their cheerleading and fantastic enthusiasm, especially as they had never played 7-a-side netball before. The U14 runners up were Cumberland 3 and the winners were Cumberland 2 but the team spirit award was deservedly won by Bishop Douglass School.
