Cumberland Netball girls on fire with double victory

Camden based Cumberland Netball Club A team, scooped double victory this weekend in two fast paced games.

On Saturday the team saw off a young and energetic Academy B side, winning 63-13 in a premier division match in the Middlesex league.

A strong performance in defence, led by Natalie Cowie was backed up by a patient and accurate attacking display. Mid court stability on attack and intense pressure on defence created numerous turnovers which were well converted by the team.

On Sunday saw a similarly slick performance beating a strong and physical Queens Netball Club, away from home in Rotherhithe, 44-20 in the first division of the POLY netball league.

Mid court defence proved a vital strength in this game which was played in difficult wet and windy conditions. Interceptions from Alicia Cross, Lois Tucker and Petra Horvath created pressure which put doubt and apprehension in the minds of the Queens attack. A confident performance by the whole attacking end made sure the game was out beyond doubt before half time.

Coach Tony Keogh said: 'It's good to see the team improving on a week by week basis. We have a strong squad and the ability to put on any number of line ups and dominate even a well drilled opposition. I look forward to seeing the girls improve even more in the weeks to come.”
