Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme

Cumberland Netball Club is part of the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme. This is a reward and recognition initiative that enables schools and youth organisations to celebrate the accomplishments of young people. Established in 1999, the Jack Petchey Foundation gives grants to programmes and projects that benefit young people aged 11-25. The Foundation exists to raise the aspirations of young people, to help them take advantage of opportunities and play a full part in society.

Cumberland are Bronze scheme members and receive 3 awards per calendar year. Players are nominated by one another, coaches and parents for going above and beyond, and achieving - perhaps where others thoughts they might fail. They could be nominated for an achievement at Cumberland or outside of netball. The winners are then selected by the committee and coaching team, based on the best nominations. The Jack Petchey Foundation provide a cash prize of £250 with the winner choosing how the money is spent within the club. Each winner is also presented with a certificate and pin badge at a club event. They also have the opportunity to attend a Jack Petchey Celebration Event where they are congratulated on stage in front of friends and family with a gold medallion.

November 2020 Winners!

Aliyah Zaranyika
Aliyah, despite her age, has been one of the most supportive team members since joining Prem. Despite having so much on with England, Mavericks, coaching, school exams, looking after younger siblings etc. she always puts her Cumberland Prem teammates first. She always prioritised Prem training, even in the middle of her senior exams, and did so much behind the scenes, such as taking the kit bag or ball bag, volunteering to run masterclasses with juniors, and messaging players a lot older than her to offer support when they were struggling mentally. She often had to play multiple games over a weekend and make arrangements with her family to be dropped at London train stations at early/late hours on a Sunday, all while still blitzing it on and off the court. She is the ultimate team player and has an extremely bright future with her netball career and whichever academic/work path she takes.

Stella Williamson
Stella missed out on making the U16A side in the 19/20 season and was devastated. Rather than letting it get her down, Stella pulled up her socks and worked harder. She was nominated and voted in as captain and her netball and leadership skills flourished on and off the court. Stella took it upon herself to seek out assistance and guidance from coaches and when she could she shared this with her team mates. She led with hard work and determination at training but also knew when the squad needed to chill out and just sing. Her behaviour at matches also showed great leadership. It didn't matter if the team were winning or losing or what the margin was Stella was always able to bring the team together.
